Final Material Selection:
Fiona Hall- Vessel
Materials: glass, steel, concrete.
I have chosen these materials for my final design in order to capture light within the vessel without the space being too bright and glary for the artist to work in.The glass is transparent and has wonderful reflective qualities and also enables Fiona Hall to view her surroundings (a very important part of her work as she is inspired by nature).
Rosalie Gascoigne- Plot
Materials: glass, steel, compacted rubble, concrete and wood
I have chosen these materials for Rosalie Gascoignes studio for a number of reasons. I chose glass to assist in letting natural light into the space through the glass side shafts as Gascoigne is concerned about environmental impacts. I chose glass treads for the stairs as they allow one to see glimpes of what may lie ahead as they follow the "plot" into the bottom workshop space. The compacted rubble surrounds the shafts to hold the structure in place. I used wood because of Gascoigne's love of the material, which she also often incoporates into her work. The concrete has been used to create platforms and partitions illustrating the unpredictable nature of a plot.
