Homework task from lecture # 7

I have chosen this image from the students master thesis in the slideshow due to a couple of qualities it possesses relating to light and space that relate directly to the laboratory space I have created for Jacques-Yves Cousteau. This image depicts the power of natural light when directed through a shaft into a space. Similarly in my design I have both a large window and open roof directing a similar quality of natural light into the laboratory space. My client, as a marine biologist would spend a significant amount of time surrounded by nature and would therefore feel the need to conserve the environment. The use of natural light, rather than artificial reduces strain that may be placed on the environment from the creation of unnatural sources of light. The light also opens up the space, bringing an element of beauty to it. This is similar to that referred to in my quote from Cousteau about the ship recks opening up the further down one explores.
