Research about Artists

Fiona Hall:
I have created a studio space for Fiona Hall that incorporates mezzanine levels to cater for the diverse styles of work she completes. This also allows Hall to choose between working in more intimate spaces or large spaces. I have provided her with a photography room on the top right mezzanine level for her work involving photography. I have also incorporated a lot of glass into the design to maximise the use of natural light (as she is environmentally aware) and also give her expansive views of her surroundings. Hall is often inspired by nature in her works. Most of her works are made in components and can be taken apart and put back together for displays so I have created a staircase which is large enough to transport her works safely to the gallery below. The ceiling is fairly high, which also allows Fiona Hall to suspend her sculpture works whilst working on them.

The Gallery Space:

I have kept the Gallery space fairly open and minimalistic to help cater for the number and size of both Fiona Halls, and Rosalie Gascoigne’s works. The staircase leading up to Fiona Hall’s studio is designed like that of a grand stand. This means that if either artist wishes to hold a talk or screen a clip the audience is able to sit and the stairs to view it.
